Athletic Program

Competing with Purpose. Growing in Character. Honoring Christ.

Athletics at Monclova Christian Academy are an extension of our educational mission. Through sports, student-athletes are given opportunities to develop discipline, perseverance, teamwork, leadership, and Christlike character in a competitive environment that honors Christ.

Our athletic program is built on the belief that how we compete matters just as much as the outcome. We are committed to developing athletes who strive for excellence, encourage their teammates, and represent MCA with integrity in both victory and defeat. This page outlines the philosophy, expectations, opportunities, and standards for participation in Thunder Athletics.

Athletic Philosophy

At Monclova Christian Academy, we believe athletics are an extension of our mission to educate and develop the whole student. Sports are not separate from education—they are one of the many ways students are shaped academically, spiritually, and personally.

Our athletic program exists to help students develop Christlike character through meaningful experiences that require discipline, teamwork, perseverance, humility, and leadership.

While we value competition and strive for excellence, we believe the purpose of athletics goes far beyond winning. Success is ultimately measured by growth in character, maturity in faith, and the ability to honor Christ in both victory and defeat.

Through participation in athletics, students are challenged to:

  • Develop self-discipline and responsibility

  • Work together toward a common goal

  • Respond to challenges with perseverance and humility

  • Show respect to coaches, teammates, officials, and opponents

  • Compete with integrity and Christlike conduct

Our desire is that every student-athlete leaves MCA not only better prepared in skill, but stronger in character and grounded in their identity in Christ.

Programs & Opportunities

Monclova Christian Academy offers athletic opportunities for students beginning in the elementary grades through high school. Our programs are designed to provide age-appropriate development, skill growth, and opportunities for teamwork in a Christ-centered environment.

Athletic participation at MCA is structured to help students grow in confidence, character, and ability as they progress through each stage of development.

Elementary & Developmental Programs

At the elementary level, students are introduced to foundational skills and teamwork through developmentally appropriate opportunities, including:

  • Intramural Elementary Soccer

  • 5th & 6th Grade Basketball

These programs focus on participation, skill-building, sportsmanship, and enjoyment of the game while introducing students to the values that define MCA athletics.

Middle School & High School Athletics

As students advance, they have the opportunity to participate in competitive interscholastic sports designed to further develop skill, discipline, and leadership.

Typical offerings may include:

  • Volleyball

  • Soccer

  • Basketball

  • Cheerleading

  • Track & Field

  • Additional opportunities as interest and participation allow

Athletic offerings may vary based on enrollment, interest, and seasonal scheduling. MCA is committed to providing meaningful opportunities for every student to grow through athletics at an appropriate level of competition and development.

Athlete Conduct & Character Expectations

Student-athletes at Monclova Christian Academy are held to a high standard of conduct, both on and off the field. Because athletes represent MCA in competition, practices, classrooms, and the community, their behavior is expected to reflect Christlike character at all times.

All student-athletes are expected to abide by the rules and standards outlined in the MCA Student Handbook. Athletic participation is a privilege, and continued involvement depends on maintaining appropriate academic, behavioral, and attendance standards.

Excessive misbehavior during the school day may result in suspension from athletic participation. Any disciplinary concerns will be reviewed by the Athletic Director and school administration prior to final decisions regarding consequences.

Students who are suspended or expelled from school are ineligible to participate in practices or athletic events for the duration of their suspension or expulsion.

Athletic Acountability

MCA believes accountability is an important part of student growth. When behavioral concerns arise, our goal is always restoration, growth, and character development. Decisions regarding athletic eligibility are made with the student’s overall development in mind.

  • Online and social media presence

We treat all teammates, coaches, officials, and opponents equally, showing respect to all.

D — Discipline

We compete with purpose, perseverance, and consistent effort until the very end.

E — Effort

We strive to honor God by giving our best in everything we do, regardless of outcome.
